David Halvorsen

I'm David Halvorsen, a research associate and student mentor at the SENS Foundation.

Both of my grandmothers died of cancer. That’s why I studied biochemistry as an undergraduate and why I joined the oncology team at the non-profit SENS Research Foundation in 2012. Our group is developing high-throughput screening (HTS) platforms for studying the Alternative Lengthening of Telomeres (ALT) pathway. ALT is a recombination-based cellular immortalization mechanism used by ~10% of cancers. I provide background support for the project by growing the cell lines, running the drug & siRNA treatments, and performing & analyzing the established dot blot and immunofluorescence ALT assays for comparison against the HTS assays.
